Parliamentary temporary investigative commission will take on anti-corruption bodies - Vlasenko

The temporary investigative commission (TIC) to investigate possible corruption in law enforcement and judicial bodies is starting to check the effectiveness of the work of anti-corruption bodies. According to MP Serhii Vlasenko, due to the recent audit of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and compromising facts published in the media, the TIC plans to hear the Prosecutor General and expand the list of invited heads of law enforcement agencies, – UNN reports.

"Given the recent audit of NABU, as well as a number of compromising facts recently covered by the media, issues regarding efficiency, the TIC will also take into its work the issue of analyzing the work of the NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO)," Vlasenko said.

The MP reported that the Prosecutor General will be invited to the nearest meeting of the investigative commission to hear his opinion on the work of the entire law enforcement system.

"The Prosecutor General is a person who knows the effectiveness of each law enforcement agency well. Next, it is possible to hear the heads of other law enforcement agencies. We will involve the public and representatives of the legal community in the work," he emphasized.

According to Vlasenko, the TIC meeting will be held next week.

Recall that the Commission for Conducting an External Independent Audit examined the activities of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau from March 2023 to November 2024.

Despite the Commission's assessment of the work of the NABU as "moderately effective", experts drew attention to the numerous critical shortcomings and violations identified. In particular, the fact that the Bureau chronically leaks information and not a single effective criminal investigation has been conducted as a result of this. In addition, the NABU staff is constantly growing, but despite this, detectives and management constantly complain about the lack of hands for "large" investigations. And, most importantly, in 2023, the Bureau served one suspicion in the defense sector, and in 2024 - none.

Experts also emphasized the low economic efficiency of NABU. "According to public data, in 2024, UAH 1.9 billion was spent from the state budget on the maintenance of NABU, while the Bureau's activities led to the return of as much as... UAH 823 million from corrupt officials. That is, 2.2 times more was spent than was returned to the state!" the experts noted.

Earlier, a number of media outlets also published investigations into alleged violations in the work of anti-corruption agencies and scandals related to dubious income, the purchase of luxury real estate for relatives at low prices, and intimate relationships with witnesses.
