A Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) officer was killed in the Holosiivskyi District of Kyiv on the morning of July 9.
According to sources of the BBC and Ukrainian Pravda, the deceased is SSU colonel Ivan Voronych.
According to the SSU, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the fact under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – an attack on the life of a law enforcement officer. The SSU and the National Police are involved in the investigation.
According to preliminary data, the attack occurred at around eight in the morning – an unknown assailant fired five shots at the colonel as he was leaving his house. The man died on the spot. The attacker fled.
Former SSU officer Roman Chervinskyi confirmed the identity of the deceased on social networks and wrote that Voronych was one of the founders of an important direction in the Security Service, which creates "serious problems for the enemy."
Investigators, detectives, dog handlers and experts are working at the crime scene. The reasons and circumstances of the murder are currently being established.
The SSU officially confirmed the fact of the murder, but did not name the deceased. They noted that, together with the National Police, they have launched a complex of investigative measures aimed at establishing the circumstances of the crime and searching for the persons involved.
Law enforcement officers have opened criminal proceedings under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - "encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer or military serviceman".
Investigative and operational groups, experts, dog handlers and a criminal investigation department are working at the scene.
Roman Chervinskyi noted in his post that Voronych was the founder of one of the SSU directions, which caused serious problems for russian special services:
"This is a personal loss for me and for many patriotic SSU employees," he wrote.
Recall that on May 1, in Kyiv, SSU officers prevented the murder of a well-known public activist and volunteer, Serhii Sternenko.
Also on June 21 in Kyiv, an attempt was made on the Azov regiment military, who was set up for a fake date via a Telegram bot. The girl lured him into the house and offered to get a "key" from under the seat of the moped. When the fighter approached, the vehicle exploded. There were no injuries. According to preliminary data, there was an explosive device in the moped. The police are investigating the attempt on his life.
