EU plans to allocate EUR 100 billion to Ukraine: details from Bloomberg

The European Union is considering the possibility of creating a fund of EUR 100 billion to support Ukraine amid the war with russia, which shows no signs of ending.

This is reported by Bloomberg.

According to the publication, according to sources, these funds may be included in the proposal for the next seven-year EU budget, which is to be presented at the end of July. If member states agree to this within the framework of budgetary agreements, the funding will start from 2028 and provide stable assistance to Ukraine.

It is assumed that the new aid scheme will work according to the already familiar model: the European Commission will provide Kyiv with grants and soft loans. However, the idea is still being discussed along with other options, the final details of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) may appear later, although the presentation of the main provisions is scheduled for July 16.

In June, the European Commission informed EU finance ministers that Ukraine's financial needs should be covered at least until the beginning of 2027. It also emphasized that this year's additional defense spending of USD 8.4 billion is planned to be covered from domestic resources.

At the same time, the European Commission warned that the ongoing war, reduced international aid and a weakening economy could lead to a budget deficit.

EU Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis told reporters on Tuesday: "We are now really assessing and working on different options to secure financing for next year. We are ready to provide Ukraine with all the necessary support for as long as it is needed."

He also added that the European Commission is considering increasing assistance "through the EU budget, as well as through revenues from russian sovereign assets" after the IMF assesses a possible deficit in Ukraine's finances.

In the meantime, Ukraine will receive 350 British air defense missiles from frozen russian assets.
