Former Minister of Transport of the aggressor country russia and former Governor of the Kursk Oblast Roman Starovoyt has committed suicide. He shot himself.
It was reported by russian media and Telegram channels.
The first to report Starovoyt's suicide were the Telegram channels SHOT and 112, which are associated with russian security forces.
They wrote, citing their own sources, that 53-year-old Starovoyt committed suicide in his house in Odintsovo, Moscow Oblast.
After some time, this information was confirmed by the russian agency RIA Novosti.
"Former Minister of Transport Roman Starovoyt committed suicide in Odintsovo, Moscow Oblast, RIA Novosti was informed by emergency services," the report says.
Starovoyt held the position of head of the Ministry of Transport of the russian federation. He took the ministerial position on May 14, 2024. Today, July 7, it became known that russian dictator vladimir putin decided to dismiss him from this position.
Prior to this appointment, Starovoyt was the governor of the Kursk Oblast (September 2019 - May 2024).
According to SHOT, shortly before this, his former deputy and ex-governor of the Kursk Oblast, Alexei Smirnov, testified against Starovoyt. Smirnov himself was arrested for embezzling RUB 1 billion allocated for the construction of defense structures in the Kursk Oblast.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in August 2024, during an operation in the Kursk Oblast, the Ukrainian Defense Forces advanced beyond the second line of defense that the russians had built in the border region in two days.
