As a result of the drone attack at the airports of three cities of the aggressor country russia, more than 500 flights were canceled and delayed. Because of this, russian airlines may suffer losses of up to RUB 20 billion.
The russian publication Kommersant reported this, citing experts and sources in the airlines.
During July 5 and 6, at least 250 flights were canceled at the Sheremetyevo (Moscow), Pulkovo (St. Petersburg) and Strigino (Nizhny Novgorod) airports. At least 270 more flights were delayed or postponed.
There is currently no data on other airports where temporary flight restrictions were applied due to the drone attack, but they may also amount to dozens of canceled and delayed flights.
According to experts, due to the cancellation of the Boeing 737-800 passenger plane, which is the most massive in the russian civil aviation fleet, the airline will suffer RUB 15-23 million in losses.
The publication writes that based on this assessment and data from open sources, it can be concluded that on July 5, airlines lost from RUB 4 billion to RUB 6 billion in losses.
Additional costs for airlines are associated with widespread schedule disruptions throughout russia. This translates into approximately RUB 20 billion in costs per day.
In addition to airlines, taxi services and other related sectors are also suffering losses. One of the publication's interlocutors said that the amount of such losses in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod alone could amount to several tens of billions of rubles.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, drone attacks in russia over the past weekend caused a collapse in air traffic. Hundreds of flights were canceled, delayed or rescheduled, and thousands of russians were stranded at airports.
As a reminder, on June 30, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine stated that two-thirds of the russian economy is experiencing stagnation. The sectors that collectively provide 17% of the country's budget revenues are suffering the most.
