The Cabinet of Ministers has recognized the grave of the founder of Bratslav Hasidism, Rabbi Nachman, in Uman, which is a center of pilgrimage for his supporters and admirers, as a monument of national importance.
The representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"The category of the monument of local importance "Landmark "Tzadik Nachman's Grave", located on 1 Hryhoriia Kosynky Street, in the city of Uman, Cherkasy Region, to the category of a monument of national importance by type of history," he said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in late September - early October 2024, the State Migration Service and law enforcement agencies switched to an enhanced work regime due to the arrival of Hasidic pilgrims to Uman (Cherkasy Region) to celebrate the Jewish New Year - Rosh Hashanah, then more than 33,000 Hasidic pilgrims arrived in Uman.
Every year during the Jewish New Year - Rosh Hashanah, tens of thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to Uman to pray at the shrine and receive blessings. As Hasidic traditions say, welcoming the New Year at the grave of Tzadik Nachman promises a "happy year."
Including the monument in the category of national should ensure stricter legal protection of the shrine, strengthening the regime on the territory and control of construction projects in the protected area.
