What caused Trump and Musk to quarrel
The conflict between Elon Musk and Donald Trump, who were previously allies, flared up over Musk's harsh criticism of Trump's massive tax bill. Musk called the bill, which would provide significant tax breaks for American manufacturing corporations and eliminate tax credits for electric vehicles and renewable energy, a "disgusting abomination" and "a terrible evil."
In response to Musk's criticism, Trump called him "crazy" and said he was angry about the loss of subsidies for electric vehicles. Trump also threatened to review government subsidies and contracts received by Musk's companies (Tesla, SpaceX).
Musk said Trump would not have won the 2024 election "without me" and called him "ungrateful." He also claimed that Trump was allegedly in the "Epstein files." Some of these posts were later deleted.
Musk threatened to create his own party ("America Party") if Trump's bill was passed, which he believed could harm the Republican Party.
At the same time, Trump said he "could" mend ties with his former billionaire pal Elon Musk, but a potential reconciliation is not his top priority.
