Ukraine is actively pumping natural gas into underground gas storage facilities (UGS), reducing the gap from last year.
This was announced by natural gas market analyst ExPro Mykhailo Svyshcho on the national telethon, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Ukraine is actively preparing for the next heating season, pumping gas into underground storage facilities. If at the beginning of June there was indeed a gap (in terms of the level of reserves in storage facilities) of 25% compared to last year, then we can already say that this gap is less than 20%, and the further it goes, the more it is reduced," Svyshcho noted.
The analyst expressed hope that by the beginning of the heating season it will be possible to completely overcome the gap from last year.
The gap can be reduced both due to domestically produced gas and due to imports.
According to ExPro estimates, by the beginning of the next heating season, Ukrainian storage facilities need to have at least 13 billion cubic meters of natural gas in underground storage.
Answering a question about assistance from foreign partners in preparing for winter, Svyshcho noted that the support of foreign partners is significant.
He noted that among foreign partners, funds for the purchase of gas for the Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint stock company are allocated by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and active negotiations are also underway with the European Investment Bank (EIB).
In addition, the Norwegian government can be separately identified, which allocates funds on a grant basis.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier, the former General Director of the Gas Transportation System Operator of Ukraine Serhii Makohon stated that as of the end of May, 2.02 billion cubic meters of active gas were stored in underground storage facilities in Ukraine and it is the lowest figure in the entire history of observations.
