The prosecutor's office took into account the voluntary return to Ukraine of Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of National Unity Oleksii Chernyshov, therefore he is not asked to be arrested, but only to choose bail as a preventive measure.
This is stated in the explanation of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NACB) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SACPO), the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"We note that the application of such a preventive measure was agreed upon by the NACB detectives and the SACPO prosecutors, based on the risks identified in this case, as well as taking into account the judicial practice of the Supreme Court of Criminal Appeals in similar cases. In particular, his return to Ukraine and his arrival at the NACB upon summons were taken into account," the statement says.
If the court determines the specified preventive measure, Chernyshov is obliged to pay the specified amount of bail within 5 days.
If the Deputy Prime Minister fails to fulfill this obligation, and if facts are established that he has violated the terms of the preventive measure, the prosecutor reserves the right to file a petition to change his preventive measure to a more severe one.
A more severe one is arrest.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the NACB and the SACPO have filed a petition with the High Anti-Corruption Court to remove Oleksii Chernyshov from the position of the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine. The prosecutor's office is asking the court to set a preventive measure for Oleksii Chernyshov in the form of a bail of UAH 120 million for the Minister of National Unity. Chernyshov was informed of suspicion of abuse of office and obtaining an especially large amount of illegal benefit for himself and third parties.
