Irish Foreign Minister Micheál Martin has made a statement regarding Hungary's position on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. According to him, the opposition of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the Hungarian government is "deeply regrettable" and "very problematic".
This is reported by The Guardians.
"Ireland will do what it always does - try to persuade," said Martin, emphasizing that "it is very important that the accession process begins".
The head of the Irish Foreign Ministry noted that the EU has had a transformative impact on Ireland, and therefore he does not want to hinder other countries seeking to join the European community.
Recall, Orbán previously stated that NATO cannot have business in Ukraine, since it is not a member of the Alliance, and his task is to keep it that way.
Orbán also believes that Ukraine's accession to the EU will lead to the bankruptcy of Hungary.
