US suspects DeepSeek of transferring user data to China's military and intelligence services

The United States believes that the Chinese company DeepSeek, which specializes in developing artificial intelligence, is helping the Chinese government collect data on millions of Internet users and gain access to the latest semiconductors.

As The Moscow Times writes, Reuters reported this on Monday, June 23.

According to an unnamed US official, the DeepSeek startup tried to obtain the latest semiconductors in Southeast Asian countries using fictitious companies.

These are H100 microchips manufactured by the American technology company Nvidia. The supply of these chips has been under US export restrictions since 2022.

The Reuters source added that China's military and intelligence services also use DeepSeek to collect user data.

According to US intelligence, DeepSeek was mentioned more than 150 times in procurement documents of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) and organizations associated with the Chinese military.

In addition, DeepSeek was involved in cooperation with research institutes working for the Chinese military.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in January 2025, DeepSeek released an artificial intelligence model similar to ChatGPT. This caused a short-term collapse in the value of Western tech giants.
