The Pakistani government has announced its decision to nominate US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
This was stated in an official statement published on the government's page on the X social network.
The message emphasizes that the initiative is related to Trump's "decisive diplomatic intervention" and his "key leadership" during the latest escalation between India and Pakistan.
Islamabad noted that it was thanks to the US President's "strategic foresight and outstanding statesmanship" that it was possible to reduce the level of tension between the two nuclear powers, achieve a ceasefire and prevent an escalation, the consequences of which could be catastrophic for millions of people both in the region and beyond.
"This intervention clearly demonstrates his (Trump. - ed.) role as a true peacemaker and supporter of resolving conflicts through diplomacy," the statement said.
It also expressed hope that Trump's efforts would continue to contribute to regional and global stability - especially against the backdrop of protracted crises in the Middle East, including the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the situation around Iran.
The cause of tension between India and Pakistan was the attack in the Baysaran Valley, which killed 26 people on May 6. In response, India launched a military operation codenamed "Sindoor" aimed at "terrorist infrastructure" in Pakistani territory and the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.
