NATO cancels meeting on Ukraine at summit in Hague - media

Discussion of the war in Ukraine at the NATO summit was canceled at the last minute. The reason was the changed schedule of meetings due to US President Donald Trump.

This is reported by Politico.

NATO representatives decided to shorten the agenda. In The Hague, as in Canada the other day, there will be no long communiqués, only short statements on new commitments.

NATO's shortened schedule includes only two main events:

  • a welcome dinner at the castle of the Dutch Royal Family,
  • one meeting of the North Atlantic Council.

It is noteworthy that previously there were two or three main events in addition to the dinner with the Royal Family.

The publication also noted that it is currently unclear whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was invited only to the dinner on the occasion of the opening of the summit on Tuesday, will be present.

Also, as reported, due to the reduction in the duration and number of events, there will be no meeting of the NATO Council on Ukraine in The Hague.

As the publication notes, this is another concession by the United States, which, despite calls from some allies to hold such a meeting, was not interested in increasing attention to the war, which Trump has failed to resolve, as he promised during last year's presidential campaign.
