Gas in Ukraine rose to over UAH 31,500/1,000 cubic meters

Natural gas prices on the Ukrainian market rose sharply to over UAH 31,550 per 1,000 cubic meters (including VAT) on Wednesday, June 18.

This is stated in the ExPro publication, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The report states that gas prices in Ukraine have risen to their highest level in over 2.5 years, since November 24, 2022.

According to ExPro quotes, gas in Ukraine on Wednesday was traded at prices of UAH 31,200 - 31,900 per 1,000 cubic meters (including VAT), depending on the resource, and a significant part of the offers at the end of the day were at the level of UAH 32,000 per 1,000 cubic meters and above.

When converted, the cost of gas is UAH 26,000 - 26,583 per 1,000 cubic meters (excluding VAT) or USD 626-640 per 1,000 cubic meters or EUR 51.1-52.3/MWh.

It is noted that these are exclusively prices on the Ukrainian market, which do not take into account the supply of natural gas at special prices under the terms of the PSO, such as the supply of gas to the population, heat and electricity producers.

A cubic meter of gas for the population from the gas supply company Naftogaz of Ukraine will continue to cost UAH 7.96.

Such consumers are supplied with gas by companies of the Naftogaz group at fixed prices in accordance with the resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Natural gas prices in Ukraine have been increasing since the beginning of May 2025.

In general, since the beginning of June, gas on the Ukrainian market has risen in price by 26%, and since the beginning of May - by 1.6 times.

In recent days, the rate of growth in gas prices has accelerated.

So, if the day before, prices of UAH 29,500 per 1,000 cubic meters were found on the Ukrainian market cubic meters (including VAT), then on Wednesday prices exceeded UAH 31,500 per 1,000 cubic meters (including VAT).

To a large extent, the increase in natural gas prices in Ukraine is due to the increase in prices at European hubs, which on Wednesday exceeded EUR 40/MWh for the first time since the beginning of April 2025.

Gas in Europe is becoming more expensive against the backdrop of geopolitical risks, primarily the war between Israel and Iran, which may affect global supplies and demand for LNG.

Another factor affecting domestic natural gas prices is the consistently high demand for the resource in Ukraine.

In addition, the volume of gas supply on the Ukrainian market has decreased after the Cabinet of Ministers obliged PJSC Ukrnafta to sell its own gas to Naftogaz at a fixed price of UAH 12,000 per 1,000 cubic meters for supply to consumers under PSO conditions.

ADVERTISING

Given the shortage of natural gas on the Ukrainian market, the difference between prices in Ukraine and Europe continues to grow.

Thus, on Wednesday, gas in Ukraine was traded approximately EUR 12/MWh more expensive than on the Dutch TTF.

Such a difference is likely to encourage private companies to import natural gas to Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, natural gas prices in Ukraine have risen to their highest level in more than two years, since February 2023, and on May 26 reached UAH 23,000 per 1,000 cubic meters (including VAT).
