In five months of 2025, twice as many Ukrainian civilians were killed died due to russian attacks than in the same period last year. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this during a government meeting, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Shmyhal noted that hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles are targeting residential buildings, schools, hospitals, power plants, museums, churches and other civilian facilities every day, and the aggressor country of russia is brazenly demonstrating to the entire civilized world its unbridled thirst for murder and continuation of war.
According to the Prime Minister, on the night of June 17 alone in Kyiv, the russians killed 24 people, injured more than 130 Kyiv residents, and damaged 150 residential buildings.
"In general, in five months of 2025, twice as many Ukrainian civilians were killed as a result of russian attacks than in the same period last year. This is a real demonstration of whether russia wants negotiations and peace," he said.
Shmyhal expressed condolences to all those who lost their relatives and friends these days, emphasizing that russia will definitely pay for everything, in particular, it must pay with big money, for this purpose an international compensation mechanism is being created consisting of three elements: a register of losses, a commission for considering applications and a compensation fund.
He noted that the register is already actively accepting applications from Ukrainians in ten categories, in particular, regarding damage or destruction of residential property, and called on all victims to submit relevant applications through Diia.
The compensation fund is planned to be filled at the expense of russian confiscated assets, from this fund Ukrainians who have suffered from the aggressor's actions will be able to receive compensation.
In addition, Shmyhal noted that the state supports Ukrainians whose housing was damaged or destroyed by shelling, the e-Reconstruction program is working, and families whose housing was damaged can receive up to UAH 350,000 for apartment repairs and up to UAH 500,000 for house repairs.
In general, according to him, so far almost 100,000 Ukrainian families have received UAH 9.3 billion in compensation for damaged housing. More than 19,000 housing certificates have also been formed, for which Ukrainians buy new homes, and a new type of compensation is being paid for reconstruction on their own land: almost 500 citizens have already received about UAH 607 million.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, according to the State Emergency Service, as a result of the russian federation's massive strike on Ukraine on the night of June 17, at least 30 people were killed and 188 were injured. Kyiv suffered the greatest blow - 28 were killed and 134 were injured. In just one nine-story building in the Solomianskyi district, 23 people were killed - the search is still ongoing.
