The aggressor country of russia is working to expand its military presence in the Arctic and is preparing a springboard for resource expansion. This was Russia expanding its military presence in Arctic and preparing bridgehead for resource expansion - Defense Intelligence by the representative of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Andrii Cherniak.
Thus, against the backdrop of global warming and the opening of new strategic opportunities in the Arctic - in particular, mineral deposits and the Northern Sea Route - the Kremlin is intensifying its activities in the region. The aggressor country of the russian federation is trying to consolidate its economic and military-technical presence there under the guise of "scientific activities".
It is noted that the key instrument for implementing the russian federation's Arctic strategy is the state enterprise "Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute". Formally, the structure performs "scientific tasks", but in fact - it is a link in Moscow's resource-military project, which aims to:
- conduct geological exploration of new gas and oil fields;
- analysis of the ice situation in the North Sea for laying shipping routes;
- modeling of climate change and oceanographic conditions until 2035 for the purpose of long-term planning of the region's exploitation.
A representative of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense said that the scientific expeditions organized by the institute study water temperature, current strength, wind dynamics, and also predict changes in the ice cover. All this data has a dual purpose - both for civilian use and for planning military operations and fleet movements.
At the same time, the russian federation is developing the region's infrastructure: it is installing communication equipment, in particular satellite communication systems, which can be used to coordinate the Arctic operations of the russian Northern Fleet and ensure the actions of unmanned systems.
"The world should be prepared for the fact that the Kremlin's next "scientific initiatives" are just a curtain for a new phase of militarization of the Arctic. The aggressor state is gradually turning the region into a springboard for projecting power, controlling logistical routes, and accessing resources. If the international community continues to underestimate these processes, the North may become the next zone of tension," Andrii Cherniak said.
