1,200 more bodies returned to Ukraine – Coordination Headquarters for Treatment of Prisoners of War

Today, within the framework of the agreements in Istanbul, Ukraine carried out another stage of repatriation measures, within which another 1,200 bodies of the fallen citizens were returned, among which, according to the russian side, are Ukrainian servicemen.

It was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

The return of the bodies became possible thanks to the coordinated work of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the SSU, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons in Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service and other structures of the security and defense sector.

In the near future, the expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and investigators of law enforcement agencies will conduct all necessary forensic medical examinations to establish the identities of the deceased. Identification will continue in compliance with Ukrainian and international standards.

"This is a complex and extremely sensitive work that returns hope to families and allows us to say goodbye with dignity to those who gave their lives for Ukraine," the Coordination Headquarters said in a statement.

Special thanks are expressed to the International Committee of the Red Cross for their assistance, as well as to the personnel of the Central Directorate of Civil-Military Cooperation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Joint Center for the Provision of Measures of Civil-Military Cooperation, who ensured the transportation of the bodies to specialized institutions and organized their transfer to representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Health.
