US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order restricting entry to the country for citizens of 12 countries at once. According to the head of the White House, these measures are being introduced to combat terrorism and illegal migration.
The press service of the presidential administration has reported this.
Citizens of the following countries are subject to a complete ban: Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
Entry was also partially restricted for residents of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
“We will restore the travel ban, some people call it the Trump travel ban, and keep the radical Islamic terrorists out of our country that was upheld by the Supreme Court,” Trump said.
As indicated in the text of the decree, the reasons for the introduction of restrictions include frequent cases of visa violations, the lack of reliable document issuing bodies in some countries, as well as the inclusion of certain states in the list of sponsors of terrorism.
At the same time, the restrictions do not apply to persons with dual citizenship, holders of special visas from Afghanistan, diplomatic documents, visas from the UN or NATO, as well as athletes.
These steps are in line with the course of Donald Trump, who promised during his election campaign to radically strengthen US migration policy.
