The State Medical Service has issued the first permit for the right to import medical cannabis substances into the territory of Ukraine.
This is stated in the message of the State Medical Service, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The permit was issued for a substance that is registered in Ukraine and included in the State Register of Medicinal Products of Ukraine.
From August 16, 2024, the law on the legalization of medical cannabis came into effect in Ukraine.
Medicines from medical cannabis will be manufactured in a pharmacy and prescribed by prescription to patients for whom conventional medicines do not have a therapeutic effect or cause side effects.
The corresponding medicines will be available only with an electronic prescription, which will indicate the dosage form.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the first harvest of industrial hemp in 2024, obtained after the legalization of the cultivation of this crop in 2023, is estimated at USD 10.5 million, and in 2025 there are all the prerequisites for this figure to double, to at least USD 21 million.
In December 2023, the Verkhovna Rada legalized medical cannabis.
