US Secretary of Defense and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth will miss a meeting of the international group for coordinating military assistance to Ukraine, Ramstein. The Associated Press reports.
It is reported that Hegseth will arrive in Brussels only on the evening of June 4, after the conclusion of the meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues for Ukraine.
"A US official confirmed on condition of anonymity that Hegseth will not participate, including via video link," the report says.
The publication notes that this is the latest in a series of steps that the US has taken to distance itself from the war in Ukraine.
"And this followed a warning from French President Emmanuel Macron that the US and others risk applying dangerous double standards if their concentration on a potential conflict with China comes at the expense of abandoning Ukraine," the agency reports.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the next meeting in the Ramstein format will be held on June 4 at NATO headquarters.
The previous meeting in the Ramstein format was held in April 2025. Discussions during the meeting led to new commitments to provide military assistance to Ukraine from allied countries in the amount of over EUR 21 billion.
