Annalena Baerbock to chair 80th session of UN General Assembly

Former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has been elected President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. Her term will run from September 2025 to September 2026.

The United Nations press service announced her election.

Baerbock's candidacy was supported by 167 UN member states.

The President of the General Assembly is elected annually on a rotational basis from among countries that are not permanent members of the Security Council. This year, the position was to be held by a representative of Western Europe, and Germany proposed Baerbock.
