Ukrainian special services independently conducted operation against russian airfields — Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that on June 1, Ukrainian special services implemented a large-scale independent operation aimed at russian military facilities, in particular airfields.

He stated this at a press conference broadcast by Suspilne.

"[On June 1] Ukraine conducted an operation independently. We constantly emphasized that we have plans, but we lack equipment. And we asked for internal funding. We emphasized that these are not operations on the territory of Russia, but operations against military targets, from where strikes on Ukraine are coming from...", the President stated.

The President also noted that this is not the first such operation. Before it, Ukrainian forces had already carried out an attack involving 400 drones on military equipment in temporarily occupied territories, hitting 40 pieces of equipment.

When asked whether Ukraine was afraid of a tough response from russia, Zelenskyy recalled that last night the russian federation had already launched more than 400 drones over Ukrainian cities - such attacks continue almost daily.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, last Sunday, June 1, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted an operation called "Web". Its target was the strategic aviation aircraft of the russian army.

The Belaya (Irkutsk Oblast), Dyagilevo (Ryazan Oblast), Olenya (Murmansk Oblast) and Ivanovo (Ivanovo Oblast) airfields were hit by Ukrainian drones.

As a result of the "Web" operation, 41 aircraft of the russian army were destroyed, including Tu-95MS, Tu-22M3 and Tu-160 bombers.

Later, the SSU stated that the estimated cost of the destroyed and damaged aircraft is USD 7 billion.

As a reminder, on June 2, satellite images of the Belaya airbase in the Irkutsk Oblast appeared online. They show damaged russian aircraft.
