Ukraine’s operation on June 1 to destroy strategic russian aircraft may limit the russian federation’s ability to conduct strikes, and will also force russian officials to consider the possibility of redistributing russian air defense systems.
This was reported by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
“Ukraine’s operation using drones against strategic russian aircraft may at least temporarily limit russia’s ability to conduct drone and long-range missile strikes on Ukraine,” the report says.
It is noted that Ukraine’s operation on June 1 was directed against aircraft that russia uses to launch cruise missiles into Ukraine, and early warning and control radar systems that russia uses to detect Ukrainian air defense systems and coordinate the targeting of russian fighters.
In particular, russia regularly uses Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 aircraft to launch Kh-101/Kh-555 and Kh-59/69 cruise missiles over Ukraine.
Analysts recalled that the downing of a russian A-50 aircraft had previously temporarily restricted russian aviation activities over Ukraine.
"Ukraine's drone operation on June 1 will force russian officials to consider the possibility of redistributing russian air defense systems to cover a much larger territory and, possibly, deploying mobile air defense groups that would be able to respond more quickly to possible similar strikes by Ukrainian drones in the future," ISW concluded.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on June 1, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted a large-scale special operation to destroy enemy bombers in the rear of the aggressor country, the russian federation.
The Security Service of Ukraine, as part of the special operation "Web", also tried to attack the military airbase Ukrainka in the Amur Oblast of the aggressor country of russia, but this attack was foiled. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that thanks to the special operation of the SSU at the airfields of the base, 34% of the strategic cruise missile carriers of the aggressor country of russia were hit. Ukraine used 117 drones for this.
