Russian and NATO military exercises to start simultaneously in Baltic Sea – Bild

Next week, NATO countries will begin the Baltos military exercises in the Baltic Sea, which have been held in early June for 50 years. And it was then that russian dictator vladimir putin decided to send his fleet to the Baltic Sea for exercises.

This is what the German publication Bild writes about.

In particular, warships will take part in the russian exercises. It is indicated that the russians decided to hold this year's exercises a month earlier than usual.

"The Russians are very aggressive. What is happening in the Baltic Sea always carries the risk of escalating the conflict," says security expert Moritz Brake.

He does not believe that the russian federation will attack during the exercises, but provocations, according to the expert, are quite possible. In particular, the russians could block NATO ships or russian aircraft could fly over Alliance ships.

"It's about testing the vigilance: how quickly does NATO react?", says Brake.

According to him, russia also wants to send a message to NATO. The alliance is "weak and vulnerable," he says.

"We see that Russia is trying to increase its threat potential in the Baltic Sea," says maritime expert Johannes Peters.

In his opinion, the russian fleet is using maneuvers to scout and monitor the enemy. To do this, russia is introducing its own units into the region, which, according to Peters, is also legal.

It is indicated that russia's postponement of the start of the exercises is not a surprise. The russians have been talking about NATO expansion for years, and with its actions, the russian federation is demonstrating its strength and ability to act to its own population.

"In recent years, Russia has been behaving more and more aggressively. The German fleet is on high alert. We must not allow Russia to intimidate us," adds Brake.
