Ukraine has used an AI-based drone-mother for the first time. Vice Prime Minister for Innovation, Development of Education, Science and Technology - Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced this on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Drones based on artificial intelligence are already working on the battlefield. The Ukrainian defense cluster Brave1 has created a new technological AI solution that increases the effectiveness and accuracy of strikes against the enemy. The drone-mother delivers two FPV strike drones to a distance of up to 300 km. They are able to autonomously find and hit targets: from enemy aircraft to air defense and critical infrastructure facilities. If the distance is up to 100 km, the drone returns back for reuse," he said.
Fedorov noted that the cost of one mission is USD 10,000, for comparison: launching a missile costs 300-500 times more.
"And all this without GPS. The SmartPilot system uses visual-inertial navigation, navigates using cameras, and LIDAR only enhances accuracy. Artificial intelligence independently recognizes and selects the target," he said.
Fedorov noted that Ukraine continues to create developments that change the rules of the game in technological warfare.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in May, the Ministry of Defense codified and allowed the Armed Forces of Ukraine to operate Ukrainian-made Baton Optic unmanned aircraft systems with fiber-optic control.
