The Japanese authorities have taken up the issue of too "creative" names, which parents sometimes call their children. "Anime-like" names eventually become a cause of bullying.
This is reported by The Guardian.
Recently, the phenomenon of kirakira has become widespread in Japan, when children are given strange names inspired by movies, anime or brands. Often these are English loanwords, or the names of anime characters.
Parents hope that such names will add uniqueness or creative development to their children. However, experts are concerned that in the future such names will cause bullying or confusion in hospitals or other government institutions.
From now on, parents will be obliged to inform local authorities about the phonetic reading of the names they give their children - unusual and controversial ones will not be allowed.
Names like Pikachu and other Pokemon, Kitty (in honor of the cartoon cat Hello Kitty), Pooh (in honor of Winnie the Pooh), Dzisama (Prince) and Akuma (Devil) will be banned.
Among the unusual names that Ukrainians gave to newborns last year are Liel, Kataleia, Hnata, Ilai, Ksavier.
