Government plans to increase state orders for technical specialties by almost 30% - Svyrydenko

The government plans to increase state orders for technical specialties by 27.6%.

First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko stated this, according to the message of the Ministry of Economy, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Currently, we see structural unemployment in the market, when there are vacancies and there are job seekers, but they do not meet each other's requests. Ukrainian business calls the shortage of personnel the number one problem. Therefore, the development of education, high-quality career guidance and the development of the training and retraining system are a priority. Our task as a state is to create conditions for young people to have the skills that are currently needed in the labor market," Svyrydenko emphasized.

Svyrydenko noted that the state creates conditions for young people to acquire skills during their studies that will be needed in the labor market during large-scale post-war reconstruction. To this end, the government plans to increase the state educational order for a number of technical and educational specialties.

In particular, in the next academic year, the government plans to increase the state educational order for the following professional areas:

engineering, production and construction - 27.6%;

education - 15.8%;

information technologies - 13.4%;

security and defense - 7.6%;

agriculture, forestry, fisheries and veterinary medicine - 6.7%.

Svyrydenko noted that for those who want to change their specialty, the government offers retraining programs: Ukrainians can receive vouchers worth up to UAH 30,000 for retraining in the specialty and in the educational institution they choose on their own.

She also believes that dual education, when students can combine study and work, is a good practice.

Svyrydenko reported that the government is currently working on changing labor legislation. It is assumed that the updated labor legislation will introduce the concept of a student employment contract, thanks to which students will be able to both study and work legally. Also, students who study remotely will be able to take additional paid vacations. Currently, they are available only to students of evening and correspondence studies.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in May the Ministry of Defense announced that this year the state order for the training of military specialists has been increased by 20%.

Earlier, the Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi said that the transformation of the higher education system in Ukraine provides that the state order will be preserved for specialties that are primarily needed by the state.
