MP Shvets died

Member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction Serhii Shvets has died.

The head of the monomajority David Arakhamia announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"After a long struggle with a serious illness, our colleague, Member of Parliament Serhii Shvets, has died. We offer our sincere condolences to Serhii's family, we share the pain of losing a loved one," he wrote.

Arakhamia indicated that Shvets died after a long struggle with a serious illness.

Shvets was born on June 13, 1976 in the city of Cherkasy.

Before becoming a parliamentarian, he was a television journalist and political commentator.

He worked on the STB, ICTV and 1+1 TV channels, where he was the host of the Breakfast with 1+1 programs.

In 2019, Shvets was elected as a Member of Parliament of Ukraine of the 9th convocation from the Servant of the People party for district 214 (Dniprovskyi District of Kyiv).

In the Rada, he held the position of Secretary of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of Journalists and Mass Media Workers.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Volodymyr Moroz, a Member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Restoration of Ukraine group, died on April 21.
