Charlie Hebdo sues over fake covers with anti-Ukrainian propaganda

The French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo has filed a lawsuit in Paris over the distribution of fake covers that imitate the publication's style and at the same time mock Ukraine and its allies.

This was reported on the magazine's website.

The images appear on social networks - mostly on Telegram and X - and are allegedly created on behalf of Charlie Hebdo, although in fact they are fakes. Some of these "covers" are accompanied by captions in russian.

The editorial staff believes that these materials are aimed at a russian audience and are intended to create the impression that the magazine supports vladimir putin and opposes Ukraine and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The fakes also mock France's and the US's support for Ukraine, and sometimes even spread rumors about the personal lives of public figures, including Brigitte Macron.

The editorial board filed a lawsuit against unidentified individuals and stressed: "The authors of the hoax hope to make people think that Charlie Hebdo is a pro-putin and anti-Zelenskyy newspaper. Propaganda is working at full speed, and it would be a mistake to continue to underestimate its harmful influence."

The magazine hopes to find not only the authors, but also the possible customers of these provocations.

Charlie Hebdo is a French satirical weekly that has been published since 1969 (with a break until 1981). The publication publishes caricatures, reports and satirical materials, adhering to left-wing views and ridiculing politicians, the far right and religious institutions.
