The Finnish Foreign Ministry has summoned russian Ambassador Pavel Kuznetsov to demand an explanation in connection with the alleged violation of the country's airspace by russian military aircraft on May 23.
Yle reported this.
Thus, two russian military aircraft are suspected of violating Finnish airspace off the coast of Porvoo. Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen stressed that the alleged border violation is being taken seriously.
It is indicated that russia will be handed a note demanding an explanation.
Earlier, the Gulf of Finland Border Guard launched a preliminary investigation into this incident.
It is indicated that this is not the first case of violation of Finnish space by the russian federation, in particular, the previous time a russian aircraft violated the country's airspace was in February. At that time, it was assumed that the russian plane was in Finnish airspace in the Gulf of Finland area west of Hanko for several minutes.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Finland previously stated that they were monitoring russia's maneuvers near the border and were "preparing for the worst," as this was their task as part of the NATO alliance.
In addition, on the evening of May 22, the Polish Air Force intercepted a russian Su-24 bomber in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
