AFU capture almost 1,000 russians in Kursk Oblast – General Staff

The Defense Forces of Ukraine captured 971 servicemen of the armed forces of the aggressor country russia in the period from August 6, 2024 to May 25, 2025 in the Kursk Oblast of the russian federation. This is stated in a message of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Sunday, May 25.

The Ukrainian military is constantly replenishing the exchange fund with russian soldiers and officers in order to rescue our citizens from captivity.

The most effective in this regard was the Kursk offensive operation. Thus, in the period from August 6, 2024 to May 25, 2025, our defenders captured 971 servicemen of the russian armed forces. "The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to take active actions in the Kursk Oblast," the report says.

The General Staff stated that the Kursk campaign was an "unexpected and asymmetric move" for the russian occupiers, the success of which was recognized in the world.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 25, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the third stage of the large-scale exchange of prisoners in the "1000 for 1000" format took place on May 25.
