Ex-MP Onyshchenko's 15-year prison sentence in "gas case" canceled

The Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court canceled the sentence of former Verkhovna Rada member Oleksandr Onyshchenko in the so-called "gas case".

It was reported in the court, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

On May 20, the Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court considered the appeals of the defense, prosecution, representative of the LLC, as well as the civil plaintiff against the verdict of the High Anti-Corruption Court of 04/05/2024, by which the former MP and another person involved in the case were found guilty of committing a number of criminal offenses.

Based on the results of the review, the panel of judges of the Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court dismissed the prosecutor's appeal, the appeals of the defense, the representative of the LLC and the civil plaintiff were partially satisfied, the verdict of the High Anti-Corruption Court was canceled and a new consideration of the criminal proceedings was ordered in the court of first instance, and the remaining part of the appeals were dismissed. The decision was made with a separate opinion of Judge Panaid.

The full text of the ruling will be announced on May 23, 2025.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2024, the High Anti-Corruption Court found former MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko guilty of organizing gas schemes and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
