Moscow and russian regions complain about massive drone attacks, airports in cities out of service

On the evening of May 21 and the night of May 22, the capital of the russian federation, moscow, and several regions of russia were attacked by drones. The head of moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, said on Telegram that 74 drones were shot down on their approach to the city. In total, according to the russian Ministry of Defense, a total of 114 drones were allegedly intercepted over russian territory from 6:00 p.m. to 11:50 p.m. moscow time on May 21.

Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky airports suspended operations. Rosaviatsia reported that the Kovyor (Carpet) plan was in effect there — a special regime that involves the complete closure of airspace. As of 5:30 a.m., the airports had resumed operations.

Residents of several russian cities, including Ryazan, Tula, and Novomoskovsk, reported loud explosions in the sky at around 3 a.m. According to russian media, an air defense system was operating in the regions, allegedly destroying Ukrainian drones.

In Ryazan, eyewitnesses heard at least three loud explosions in different parts of the city. Similar sounds were also recorded by residents of Novomoskovsk. In Tula, at least ten powerful explosions thundered around 2 a.m.
