An unknown gunman or gunmen shot and killed former Ukrainian politician Andrii Portnov on Wednesday morning at the gates of an American school in the wealthy Madrid district of Pozuelo, a source close to the investigation said. Reuters reports.
Police received a call about the shooting at 9:15 a.m. (07:15 GMT) local time, Madrid police told the agency, without naming the deceased.
Upon arrival, law enforcement and doctors declared Andrii Portnov dead from multiple gunshot wounds. He was shot four times in the chest and once in the head.
Spanish radio station Cadena SER reported that the man was taking his children to school when he was shot.
It was previously reported that Andrii Portnov has won several court cases against media and NGOs. In particular, regarding the Anti-Corruption Action Centre, Radio Liberty, Chesno Movement, Kyiv Independent, Hromadske Television, Petro Poroshenko, Natalia Sedletska, the Priamyi TV channel, and three lawsuits against Yurii Butusov.
