Crown Prince Haakon of Norway arrives in Kyiv for first official visit

On the morning of May 20, Crown Prince Regent Haakon of Norway arrived in Kyiv for the first time on an official visit. His plans include meeting with the authorities and visiting wounded servicemen in hospital.

It was reported by NRK.

Haakon arrived in Ukraine by train and got off at one of the stations outside the capital. Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Aasland arrived in Kyiv with him.

At the station, the Norwegian delegation was met by Norwegian Ambassador to Ukraine Helene Sand Andresen and Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Mishchenko.

During the visit, the Crown Prince will meet with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, as well as with Norwegian partners. The visit program includes visiting projects implemented with the support of the Nansen Humanitarian Program, which is funded by the Norwegian government.

During the trip, Haakon has already visited a medical facility where wounded Ukrainian servicemen are being rehabilitated. He also visited the memorial to the fallen defenders of Ukraine in the village of Moshchun, Kyiv region.

This is not Haakon's first diplomatic contact with the Ukrainian leadership. In March 2025, he and Crown Princess Mette-Marit held an audience with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The parties discussed strengthening cultural ties and supporting the Grain from Ukraine initiative.

Recall that in February of this year, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) stopped providing assistance to people from 20 countries, including Ukraine. This happened for the first time in history.
