US President Donald Trump said that Ukraine and the aggressor country of russia will "immediately" begin negotiations on a ceasefire and an end to the war. Trump wrote about this on his social network Truth Social on Monday, May 19.
"I just finished my two-hour conversation with russian president vladimir Putin. I think it went very well. Russia and Ukraine will immediately begin negotiations on a ceasefire and, more importantly, on the END of the war," the US President emphasized.
According to him, after the war ends, russia wants to trade with the United States, and Ukraine can benefit greatly from trade with the United States as it rebuilds its country.
"Negotiations between russia and Ukraine will begin immediately. I informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb of this during a telephone conversation with me, immediately following my conversation with president putin," Trump wrote.
The Pope also expressed interest in holding peace talks, Trump noted.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 19, russian dictator vladimir putin said that the russian federation was allegedly ready to work with Ukraine on a memorandum on a ceasefire and compromises that both sides would have to make.
On May 19, US Vice President JD Vance said that negotiations on the war in Ukraine had reached a certain impasse.
As a reminder, on May 17, russian president's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that a meeting between dictator vladimir putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is possible.
