Pro-European Nicușor Dan wins Romanian presidential election

In Romania, the electoral commission has counted 100% of the votes cast in the May 18 election. According to the calculations, the next president of the country is the centrist and pro-European candidate, the mayor of Bucharest - Nicușor Dan. This is reported by the Romanian service of Radio Liberty.

Thus, it is reported that after counting 20,085 protocols, Nicușor Dan received 6,168,696 votes, which is 53.60%, and his opponent George Simion - 5,339,039, or 46.40% of the votes. The difference between the two candidates is 829,657 votes.

It is noted that the voter turnout this time was record high - over 64%. About 11.6 million Romanians from within the country and abroad took part in the vote, which is over two million more than in the first round. In addition, there was a very large presence abroad: 1.6 million Romanians from the diaspora voted.

George Simion admitted his defeat in the election.
