Ukraine is negotiating with the European Union on the extension of the autonomous trade measures (ATM) regime for Ukraine (the so-called visa-free trade), which ends on June 5.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this during the "government question hour", which was broadcast by the Verkhovna Rada member from the European Solidarity faction Oleksii Honcharenko on his YouTube channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"As of today, the Ukrainian government is in negotiations. That is why I say that the process is ongoing, it did not happen and by June 5 we expect to agree on a certain transitional option for visa-free trade with the European Union until the negotiations are completed," he said.
As of today, Ukraine is in the process of active negotiations, and, according to Shmyhal, Kyiv expects to agree on a "transitional option" for visa-free trade before the final amendments to the Association Agreement are made.
Representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are participating in the negotiations. According to the Prime Minister, discussions continue weekly, and the government is confident that a result will be achieved.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the European Commission does not plan to extend the autonomous trade measures (ATM) regime for Ukraine (the so-called trade visa-free regime), which is in effect until June 5, but will ensure a smooth transition to a new scheme, where all the conditions for trade liberalization will be fixed in the free trade agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
