Ukraine calls on Poland to take measures to prevent blocking of transport routes

Ukraine called on Poland to take measures to prevent the blocking of transport routes between the countries. This is announced in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, it is reported that on May 13, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Mishchenko met with the head of the Polish Embassy in Ukraine Piotr Łukasiewicz in connection with the situation near the Dorohusk checkpoint on the border with Ukraine, where Polish protesters resorted to blocking the movement of freight transport.

The Ukrainian side called for comprehensive measures to prevent the blocking of transport routes between Ukraine and Poland, which are vital for supporting the Ukrainian economy and are of important humanitarian importance in the context of the ongoing russian armed aggression.

Mishchenko stressed the inadmissibility of the impact of the domestic political situation on the eve of the presidential election in Poland on both the economic interests of both countries and Ukrainian-Polish relations in general.

In this context, the Deputy Minister appealed to Łukasiewicz with a request to ensure contact between the Polish government and the protesters as soon as possible to discuss the reasons for their actions and eliminate the grounds for blocking the Ukrainian-Polish border at this checkpoint.

In order to quickly resolve the situation on the border, the Deputy Minister proposed establishing direct contact between the leadership of the relevant ministries of both countries. The diplomat added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is ready to provide appropriate assistance to this process.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 12, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that from 4 pm (Kyiv time) Polish carriers began a protest in the direction of the Dorohusk checkpoint, which is opposite the Ukrainian Yahodyn checkpoint. The movement of trucks through the Yahodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint has been restricted. The State Customs Service reported that the number of trucks in the electronic queue at this checkpoint has almost halved.
