Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to meet only with russian dictator vladimir putin, since other russian officials are unlikely to be authorized to make certain decisions.
Mykhailo Podoliak, an advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said this on the air of the YouTube channel The Breakfast Show.
Podoliak was asked what Zelenskyy would do if the russian dictator did not come to Turkey on Thursday, May 15. Journalists also asked whether the Ukrainian leader could hold talks with other representatives of the russian federation.
According to Podoliak, the current structure of power in russia is obvious to everyone. Only putin can make decisions on the continuation or end of the war.
"Even russian foreign minister sergey lavrov or russian prime minister mikhail mishustin are unlikely to be authorized to make certain decisions," Podoliak said.
In addition, he stressed, Zelenskyy cannot meet with anyone other than putin, since this would not be the right format for the talks.
The arrival of anyone other than putin for talks with Zelenskyy would be evidence that russia is once again trying to stall for time by organizing formal and fruitless meetings at the lowest level.
Bilateral talks between Ukraine and russia
On Saturday, May 11, russian dictator vladimir putin publicly stated russia’s alleged readiness for bilateral talks with Ukraine. He proposed holding them in Turkey this Thursday, May 15.
Later, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the United States and European allies supported his decision to hold a meeting with putin in Turkey.
Zelenskyy also said that he would personally wait for putin for bilateral talks.
And yesterday, May 12, US President Donald Trump admitted that he may visit Turkey on May 15 to participate in the negotiations between Zelenskyy and putin.
