One hundred tankers from russia's "shadow fleet" hit by new UK sanctions

The UK government has announced new restrictions on the aggressor country of russia, which London called "the largest in history".

This is according to a message on the British government's website.

The new package of British sanctions includes 100 tankers that are part of the so-called "shadow fleet" used by russia to export oil and petroleum products.

Sanctions were also imposed against a vessel that participates in benefiting or supporting the kremlin.

The companies affected include BX Energy, Nord Axis, Soglasie Insurance Company and Romarine AS.

London also imposed sanctions on the management of 2Rivers Group - Tahir Garayev, Ahmed Kerimov, Anar Madatli, Talat Safarov and Etibar Eyyub.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the day before it became known that the European Union countries had agreed on the 17th package of sanctions against russia for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

According to Reuters, the new package of European sanctions will include more than 100 tankers from russia's "shadow fleet".

And according to the Financial Times, the European Union has prepared sanctions against companies from five countries that help russia circumvent previously imposed restrictions.
