Zelenskyy reveals details of phone conversation with Trump: discussed "minerals agreement" and ceasefire

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump discussed the "minerals agreement" ratified by Ukraine and further steps aimed at achieving peace in a phone conversation on May 8.

This is stated in an official communiqué published by the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The heads of state congratulated each other on the Day of Victory over Nazism in World War II and noted the importance of the Verkhovna Rada’s ratification of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries, better known as the "subsoil agreement".

"The leaders agreed on the importance of this historic agreement, which opens up many opportunities for both countries," the communiqué emphasized.

A significant part of the conversation concerned the security situation. Donald Trump, according to the President's Office, inquired about the situation on the front. In response, Zelenskyy briefly informed about the state of affairs on the front line.

The Ukrainian President also confirmed Ukraine's readiness for a temporary cessation of hostilities: "Volodymyr Zelenskyy underscored that Ukraine is ready for a 30-day ceasefire starting immediately and is waiting for Russia to agree to this proposal. After that, Ukraine is ready to start negotiations in any format," the document says.

It is noted that during the conversation the parties agreed to continue contacts.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's press secretary Serhii Nykyforov said that a telephone conversation was taking place between the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump.
