Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of National Unity of Ukraine Oleksii Chernyshov predicts that the law on dual citizenship will be ready by the end of the year.
He stated this in an interview with the Italian publication La Repubblica.
Thus, the Minister said that currently more than 20 million Ukrainians are abroad, among whom approximately 5 million are forced migrants who left Ukraine after the full-scale invasion of the aggressor country russia.
"We will not force anyone to return, this should be a voluntary process. The Ministry's task is to unite all Ukrainians both in the country and abroad. First of all, we are adopting a law that will allow dual citizenship, which is currently prohibited. The law will be ready by the end of the year," Chernyshov said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Office of the President advocates granting Ukrainian citizenship to foreign servicemen without renouncing their citizenship.
It was also reported that in December 2024, the Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading the bill on multiple citizenship initiated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
