US approves sale of 2 Patriot missile launchers to Romania

The US government has approved the sale of the MIM-104 Patriot air defense system and related equipment to Romania, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) reported on its official website.

The agency said that the Romanian authorities have requested the sale of two M903 launchers, one AN/MPQ-65 radar, one AN/MSQ-132 command post, and one power supply source.

In addition, the order includes personnel training, spare parts, and a number of other related equipment.

The total estimated cost of the order is USD 280 million.

RTX Corporation and Lockheed Martin have been identified as the prime contractors.

The agency noted that the sale of the Patriot missile defense system to Romania will not affect US defense readiness.

Recall that in September 2024, the Romanian government approved the donation of the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.

In mid-October, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Patriot air defense system donated by Bucharest had arrived in Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in April 2025, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he had discussed with US President Donald Trump the possibility of purchasing additional air defense systems.

After the strike by the army of the aggressor country russia on Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Region (April 4, 2025), when 9 children were killed, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine needs 10 more Patriot air defense systems.
