The Verkhovna Rada has allowed renaming of military administrations if the corresponding settlement was renamed.
Oleksii Honcharenko, a Member of Parliament from the European Solidarity faction, broadcast the meeting at which the decision was made on his YouTube channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
A total of 296 parliamentarians voted for bill No. 13175 as a whole, with the minimum required 226.
According to it, the names of military administrations of settlements are formed based on the names of the corresponding administrative-territorial units.
It is established that in the event of renaming such a unit, the corresponding military administration changes its name.
The decision to change the name of the military administration of a settlement is made by the head of this administration.
The explanatory note states that the purpose of the bill is to establish legal grounds for changing the names of military administrations of settlements, in particular in connection with the adoption of the Verkhovna Rada Resolution No. 3984-IX of September 19, 2024, "On Renaming Individual Settlements and Districts," in accordance with the Law "On Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and the Decolonization of Toponymy."
As of January 27, 2025, more than 190 military administrations of settlements have been established in Ukraine.
By the resolution of the Parliament on renaming individual settlements and districts, taking into account the recommendations of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and the National Commission on State Language Standards, individual settlements and districts were renamed.
In this regard, it is necessary to resolve the issue of changing the names of the military administrations of settlements established by presidential decrees, which are located within the renamed administrative-territorial units.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 26, 2024, a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada on the renaming of individual settlements and districts came into force.
