US President Donald Trump has again stated that, in his opinion, russian dictator vladimir putin seeks to end the war against Ukraine.
The US President said this in an interview with ABC News, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"I would say that he would like to stop the war… If it weren't for me, I think he'd want to take over the whole country, personally… I always felt – so when I left, there wasn't even a chance that this would happen," Trump said.
At the same time, the US President evaded a direct answer to the question of whether he trusts the russian leader.
In addition, Trump said that the russian president is not trying to occupy the entire territory of Ukraine because of him, and not because of russia's limited military capabilities.
"I think Putin wanted all of Ukraine... And because of me, I do believe that – he's willing to stop the fighting," the US leader said.
The head of the White House also hinted that russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine might not have happened if he had been president then, and not his predecessor.
In addition, Trump commented on new russian attacks on Ukrainian cities.
"There was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days," Trump said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Trump previously stated that the aggressor country russia allegedly agrees not to seize the entire territory of Ukraine, limiting itself to Crimea and four regions in the east and south, which, according to him, is a "big concession."
