13% of citizens speak russian at home, another 19% speak Ukrainian and russian. This is evidenced by the results of a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Thus, when asked what language you usually speak at home, 63% of respondents answered that it is Ukrainian; 13% - russian; 19% - Ukrainian and russian; 5% - gave another answer.

The study was conducted on February 14-March 4, 2025 by telephone interviews based on a random sample of mobile numbers. 1,029 adult respondents living in all regions of Ukraine, except for temporarily occupied territories, were surveyed. The statistical error of the sample does not exceed 4.1%.
KIIS notes that compared to 2020, the share of those who communicate in Ukrainian has increased from 52% to 63%. At the same time, the number of those who communicate in russian has decreased from 25% to 13%. The share of those who communicate in both languages has hardly changed - 18% in 2020 and 19% now.
Sociologists also note that after the full-scale invasion, a significant part of the population did switch to using the Ukrainian language, but the scale of the changes does not seem as great as one might expect. Despite all these changes, a significant part of Ukrainians continue to use russian in everyday life, as various KIIS data show, such Ukrainians also have completely pro-Ukrainian views (strongly condemn russia, support Euro-Atlantic integration, etc.).
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Verkhovna Rada is proposing to completely ban the use of the russian language in schools and universities, including communication during breaks.
