Power fluctuations recorded at Ukrainian NPPs - IAEA

All three nuclear power plants in Ukrainian-controlled territory - Khmelnytskyi, Rivne and South Ukraine - are producing electricity, although some units are in a state of planned shutdown, while others have to reduce power from time to time. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said this.

The agency notes that at the Khmelnytskyi NPP, one reactor remained on standby for maintenance and restart, while the power generation of the second unit was reduced at the request of the network operator for 36 hours earlier this week.

At the Rivne NPP, the second unit was put on standby for maintenance and restart, while the power generation of the third unit was reduced at the request of the network operator for several days this week.

The South Ukraine NPP also experienced power fluctuations this week.

“The IAEA team at the station was informed that on April 17, seven drones were detected 2 km east of the site, which is also common during the conflict (the russian war against Ukraine - ed.). Similarly, teams, especially at the Chornobyl site and the South Ukraine NPP, continue to hear air alerts almost daily,” the report said.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the agency’s experts working at the russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP were forced to stay home on Wednesday morning after hearing loud gunfire near the main administrative building where their office is located.

In addition, Grossi noted, the IAEA team continued to hear explosions and gunfire at various distances from the station almost daily for the past week.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, 4 km from the South Ukraine NPP, observers from the International Atomic Energy Agency recorded the flight of eight drones on the night of April 9.
