The body of journalist Viktoria Roshchyna, who was killed in russian captivity, has been returned to Ukraine. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko in an interview with Censor.NET.
"Her body was returned as part of a recent repatriation at the end of February this year. Her identity was identified using DNA expertise," Tymchenko said.
Speaking about how the bodies of deceased Ukrainians are being repatriated, the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that there are no separate repatriations of people who were killed in russian colonies or pre-trial detention centers. And when returning the bodies of military personnel, the russians do not explain the causes of a person's death.
"We can establish that the deceased was a prisoner of war or a civilian only as a result of the investigative actions carried out or if the information that the person was in captivity or was held in places of deprivation of liberty was confirmed, when it comes to civilians," Leonid Tymchenko said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Viktoria Roshchyna disappeared in August 2023 during a trip to the territories occupied by russia. In April 2024, russia first confirmed that it was illegally detaining her. The day before, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, reported that the journalist was killed in captivity.
