Large-scale fire at one of largest arsenals in russia: fire spreads to entire territory of military facility

In the Vladimir Oblast of the russian federation, a fire has engulfed the entire territory of the 51st arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate (GRAU) of the russian Ministry of Defense. The secondary detonation is ongoing.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council Andrii Kovalenko has reported this.

"The 51st arsenal of the GRAU burned down so well, the secondary detonation, the fire has almost completely engulfed it," Kovalenko wrote on Telegram.

The russians claim that the secondary detonation is supposedly "gradually ending", but continue the evacuation announced yesterday. Some enterprises in the region are closed, kindergartens and schools are not working, roads are blocked. Four victims are known.

Recall that on April 21, shells began to explode on the territory of a military unit in the Vladimir Oblast, a large-scale fire broke out. The russian Ministry of Defense stated that the cause of the explosions was a violation of safety regulations.

On the eve, OSINT analysts showed a NASA image showing the scale of the fire. As of the evening of April 22, it turned out that the fire had spread to the entire territory of the arsenal.

The arsenal can store up to 270,000 tons of ammunition. In the Kirzhachsky district, near the epicenter of the events, the evacuation of the population from nearby settlements began. According to the Astra Telegram channel, the explosion was so strong that a smoke "mushroom" was visible even in the Moscow Oblast, 50 kilometers from the scene.

The 51st GRAU arsenal is one of the largest ammunition depots at the disposal of the russian Ministry of Defense, covering an area of ​​​​about 3.5 km². It stores Iskander and Kinzhal missiles, ammunition for Pantsir-S1, S-300, S-400, Grad, Uragan, Smerch and other systems. The distance from the warehouse to the border with Ukraine is approximately 530 km.
